What will that rental car really cost?

The daily rate is just the start. Add the fees from your quote and see the real total and per-day cost.

Fill in the numbers from your own quote. Fees are set to 0 by default because they vary a lot by company, location and country. The fee percentages are both applied to the base rate.

    Where the extra costs hide

    • Taxes and airport fees. Airport pick-ups often carry extra concession or facility charges that off-airport branches don't. Your quote's "taxes & fees" line shows them, so compare the totals, not the daily rates.
    • Insurance (CDW/LDW). Before you buy the counter cover, check your own auto policy and credit card. Many cards include rental car coverage when you pay with the card and decline the rental company's waiver. Rules differ, especially abroad.
    • Young driver fees. These usually apply to drivers under 25, and the amount depends on the company and location.
    • Extra drivers. Some companies and US states waive the fee for spouses or partners. Check the terms.
    • Tolls. Rental toll devices are often charged per rental day on top of the tolls themselves. Your own transponder or paying online can work out cheaper.
    • Fuel. Returning the car full is usually cheapest. Prepaid fuel and refuelling charges cost more if you don't use the whole tank.

Always read the final booking summary. It's the only place the full price is guaranteed.
